Nellie Trina Caton Hoogenboom 1917-2017
99, passed away Friday, Feb. 24, at her home after living a very full life. She was born April 6, 1917, in Goshen, to Dirk and Jennie (Berkman) Hoogenboom. On Nov. 8, 1941, she married Woody L. Caton. He died Aug. 22, 1985. On Dec. 31, 1991, she married Leonard Hoogenboom. He died May 22, 2009. She is survived by her son, Jeffery Caton, Goshen; a granddaughter, Joselyn Caton, Bozeman, Montana, and her mother, Janice Caton, Goshen; special family member and Finnish exchange student, Camilla Broman and her husband, Christer, their children, Nina ( Bob) Brooks and children, Solveig and Evelina and Erik (Shana) Broman, all of Baltimore, Maryland; stepchildren, Evelyn Speares, Lexington, South Carolina, Janice (Greg) Elliott, Charlotte, North Carolina, Leonard A. (Pamela) Hoogenboom, Florence, South Carolina, and David (Frances) Hoogenboom, Lexington, South Carolina; 10 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and four siblings, Kathleen Higgins and James, Richard and Bernard "Bud" Hoogenboom. Nellie was a beautician with her own shop for several years. In her later years she worked as a beautician at Greencroft. When Woody was elected sheriff, she became the matron deputy of the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department. She was a kind, caring and loving individual and gracious hostess supporting Woody in his political career and enjoyed their travels. Her golden years were enriched with the love and support of Leonard's loving family. Friends may call Saturday, March 4, from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. The Revs. Ed and Brenda Fritz will officiate. Cremation will take place and burial will be in Violett Cemetery.
